Pulling VoiceThread into your Etudes course is quick and easy. By default, you will see a VoiceThread button on the left side of your page. This is a simple portal into VoiceThread, where you can see your VT Home page. This shows you all of your courses and content in VoiceThread.

If you want to direct your students to specific VoiceThread content, please scroll down to see the embedding and linking instructions.

You can also embed VoiceThreads into your content area so that they display when the page loads, or you can add a simple link that students can click to view the VoiceThread in a new browser window.

To embed a specific VoiceThread in your content:

  1. Click on the VT icon in the editor.
  2. A window will open and display all of your VoiceThreads.
  3. Find the VoiceThread you want to use, and drag it into your Course Group on the left side of the page.  This is what gives your students permission to see it.
  4. Once you’ve shared in step #3 above, click on a VoiceThread to select it.
  5. Click on the menu icon in the top-left corner of the VoiceThread.
  6. Select “Embed”.
  7. Click “Copy Embed Code”. This will copy the code to your clipboard.
  8. Place your cursor in the box at the top of the window that reads “Copy link address here”.
  9. Paste (Ctrl + V or command + V) the embed code into that box.
  10. Click “OK” at the bottom of the window.
  11. You will see your VoiceThread embedding on the page. It will appear as a box with the word “iframe”.
  12. Save your work by clicking Save or Done (as appropriate) at the bottom of your Etudes page.

Note: If you don’t see these options in your course, that probably means that the integration was done after your course shell was created.  In that case, please refer to the Etudes setup instructions to enable VoiceThread in your course before following the instructions above.

Troubleshooting Tips

Error message: “The authentication failed; the signature on your request did not match the expected value”, “Could not find Org for this launch”, or “Unsupported Signature Method”

If you have entered the Consumer Key and Shared Secret into your course yourself, please verify that these are accurate.

If you did not enter that information yourself, have your Etudes administrator check to make sure the Shared Secret and Consumer Key are entered correctly, and that the clock on your Etudes server is accurate.

You’re not automatically signed in to VoiceThread when you click on a VT link

Make sure your web browser accepts third-party cookies.

When you click on a VT link, you see a page titled “VoiceThread Account Verification”.

This means you already had a VoiceThread account under your email address, and the system is now trying to connect that existing account with your Etudes profile.  You’ll only need to complete this step once.  To proceed through this page:

  • Click on the link that says “Set it here” to set a verification password for your account.
  • Proceed through the steps to set a password.  This will involve receiving an email from VoiceThread.
  • Use that password you just set on the verification page.
